Overview

Motor Match is a Kenya-based vehicle marketplace designed to simplify the highly fragmented buying experience. Instead of forcing users to navigate separate platforms for cars, bikes, trucks, farm equipment, or construction machines, Motor Match unifies all categories into one seamless and intuitive platform.

The project also addresses a major challenge for Kenyan dealers: untracked sales and unclear lead attribution. Most buyer interactions and offline conversions go unrecorded, making ROI measurement difficult. Motor Match introduces a system that captures multi-channel shopper activity and turns previously untraceable engagements into actionable insights—bringing transparency, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making to the local automotive market.

Understanding Business Goals and Requirements

  • Build a modern and easy-to-use website for buying and selling vehicles.

  • Support multiple vehicle categories such as cars, bikes, vans, trucks, farm and construction equipment.

  • Provide a smooth browsing and search experience for users.

  • Showcase detailed vehicle information, images, and pricing clearly.

  • Enable both individuals and businesses to list their vehicles easily.

  • Deliver a trustworthy, transparent platform that simplifies the vehicle buying process.

User Research

Since we did not have the opportunity to conduct interviews directly with users in Kenya, we relied on secondary research methods to understand the market. This included analysing existing Kenyan vehicle marketplaces, studying user reviews, examining pain points highlighted on forums and social platforms, and reviewing industry reports on automotive buyer behaviour in Kenya.

Competitive Analysis

  • Narrow categories: Mostly cars; weak support for trucks, buses, farm, and construction vehicles.

  • Fragmented search: Buyers switch platforms to find different vehicle types.

  • Low trust: Limited verified listings, inspections, and transparency.

  • Outdated UI: Poor filtering, cluttered layouts, weak visual hierarchy.

  • Poor listing quality: Incomplete details and inconsistent photos.

  • Limited dealer tools: No strong bulk uploads or inventory management for commercial sellers.

These gaps reveal a strong opportunity for Motor Match to enter the market with a unified, multi-category marketplace that delivers modern UX, consistent listing standards, verified sellers, and transparent information addressing both consumer and commercial vehicle needs in a single, comprehensive platform.
